Mysteries of the Leaning Tower of Nevyansk

The Leaning Tower of Nevyansk is one of Russia’s most mysterious architectural structures. The history of its construction is surrounded by both myths and legends. For centuries researchers unsuccessfully tried to find out who the architect behind the tower was, when exactly it was built and most important of all – find the answer to one question: Where did the tower get its strange tilt from? The only thing known about the tower is that it appeared in the Ural city of Nevyansk thanks to a well-known industrialist family, the Demidovs. The family were the owners of a metallurgical empire that supplied almost half of the iron in Russia during the 18th century. RTG TV host Eugenia Altfeld got to visit the secret Acoustic Room in one Russia’s first scientific laboratories and found out the truth as to whether or not escaped convicts minted fake gold coins in the mysterious tower.
