In the Komi Republic winter lasts for six months of the year. During this long season, the area’s many lakes and rivers are covered in ice, but this doesn’t cause devoted fishermen to put down their fishing poles for even a day. The most experienced and successful fishermen catch just as many fish in the winter as they do in the summer. In order to believe this, it is enough to visit the area’s ice-fishing competitions on the Vychegda River – one of the Komi Republic’s largest rivers.
