The Museum-Panorama of the Battle of Borodino was initially designed in order to display just one exhibit: A monumental panoramic painting of Borodino done by Franz Roubaud. A Russian artist with French roots, the talented Roubaud painted this work just two years before the 100th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War after being commissioned to do so by Russia’s Nicholas II.
