Alexander Nevsky Lavra

Alexander Nevsky Lavra is an operating monastery and one of the hugest historical and architectural ensembles kept in Saint-Petersburg from the 18th century. It was founded by Peter the Great almost three hundred years ago on the empty bank of the Neva river. It was there that the residence of spiritual power was located, solemn divine services were held in presence of Tsar family's members, therefore it was magnificence and splendour that distinguished all constructions and temples of the Lavra. Great historical personalities and outstanding figures of Russian culture were buried in the necropolis and burials , and monuments were produced by the best sculptors of that time. One of the most important shrines – relics of the most Orthodox Duke Alexander Nevsky. Presenter of RTG TV Stanislav Salnikov visited restored interiors of Petersburg metropolitans' residences, learnt how the way of life in a contemporary Orthodox monastery is organized, and examined works of restoration, icon-painting and other workshop of Alexander Nevsky Lavra.
