Ethnographic Settlements of Russia

There are about 200 different nationalities of people living in Russia, some of which are little known and low in numbers. The age-old traditions of the indigenous inhabitants of Kamchatka, the Yamal Peninsula, Siberia and many other regions however, have been preserved and passed down from generation to generation. Tourists have the chance to get acquainted with the way of life in these culture- and tradition-rich villages that can be found all over the country. When visiting the Khanty camp or the Cossack village of Kuban, travellers don’t simply go to museums, but completely immerse themselves in the daily culture of the villages. Doing this they can discover what world record the Khanty people hold, why Itelmen houses have two doors and why Kuban Cossacks stopped sporting their famous and traditional «chub» haircut – a single lock of hair in the centre of a shaved head.
