People first settled in the city of Pskov, a city founded by Slavic Krivichi at the beginning of the 10th century, hundreds of years ago. Located on the coast, medieval Pskov was a large trading and cultural center. Many of the city's inhabitants were famous all over ancient Rus for their work. An example of such people are Pskov architects Ivan Shiryai and Postnik Yakovlev - creators of St. Basil's Cathdral in Moscow. Many monuments designed and built in Pskov during the Middle Ages have been preserved and can still be seen today. RTG TV host Alexander Uvarov visited Pskov's Mirozhsky Monastery where frescoes from the 12th century have been preserved. He also found out how the monastery’s hidden staircases were built and which merchants were referred to as "guests."
