It is known as the “celebration of the plough” and first appeared in pagan times. As people in those times depended heavily on the gods, the holiday’s main purpose was to win the favour of the many gods and spirits of nature. RTG TV host Irina Pudova completely emerged herself in the Sabantuy festival; she tasted original and delicious food from the region, learned the secrets to making kumis (a fermented dairy drink) and took part in various competitions.
