Petersburg's smaller museums. Micro-miniatures

There are few museums whose exhibition pieces are in working condition and which visitors can use for their intended purposes. One such museum is the Museum of Soviet Arcade Machines in the very centre of St Petersburg. The arcade games on display first appeared in the 1970s and were originally intended for children. In the halls of this museum visitors have the opportunity to go back in time and feel like children again — children of the USSR — and play games on one of the 40 arcade machines which offer games such as hockey, World of Warplanes, Sea Battle and The Hunt. What could be more entertaining than peering through a periscope to watch the smooth movements of metal boats or pulling the trigger of what feels like a real-live aerogun? And don’t forget about the unimaginable skill of the engineers who developed such devices! Perhaps these are just a few of the reasons why older visitors nostalgic for their childhoods are not the only guests of the museum, but are joined by younger generations as well.
