Black Sea Fishing

Despite the Black Sea's impressive two-kilometre depth, all 180 species of creatures in the sea can be found only in the 200-metres closest to the surface. In this sea local fishermen catch things ranging from herring to poisonous skates, perch, carp, croaker and rockfish. In southern Russia not far from Gelendzhik, RTG TV host Denis Golovko tested the waters catching Mediterranean Scad – or the queen of sea-fishing as they call it in the area. Hake is another fish plentiful in these waters. The whole thing can be used to make ukha, a fish soup, often prepared on the rocky coast near the resort town of Gelendzhik.
