Winter tour of Vorobyovy Gory

Vorobyovy Gory, the highest point of Moscow, is located in southwest of capital on a steep bank of Moskva river. This is where tourists from all over the world come to enjoy impressive view on historical center of city. Vorobyovy Gory were recorded for the first time in fifteen century chronicle, there was village of Vorobyovy at that time. It was purchased by grand duchess Sofia from priest nicknamed Vorobey, literally translated Sparrow. Young Emperor Peter the Great made maneuvers of his «amusing armies». For this purpose a small fortress was constructed there, where one of Tsar’s favorite amusements was born, namely cannon fighting. During Soviet Time district of Vorobyovy Gory experienced second birth, for it became a face of Soviet capital, this is where building of Moscow State University and country’s first ski springboard appeared. Near Vorobyovy Gory there’s a famous Luzhniki stadium, where 22nd Olympic Games took place in 1980. Presenter Yanina Studinina took a walk in Vorobyovy Gory park and visited festival of ice sculptures in Luzhniki.
